Famous People Who Love Cannabis

Famous People Who Love Cannabis

Let’s get real; everyone loves getting high. The people who don’t are either trying to pass a drug test or lying. Chances are, many of the artists or celebrities you adore are stoners, but here are a few of our favorite stoners:

Carl Sagan

Carl Sagan was a famous scientist and public educator. When he wasn’t showing us the expanse and majesty of the cosmos on TV, there’s a good chance he was enjoying a joint. Sagan was a lifelong cannabis user and even wrote a long essay on the benefits of cannabis usage under the pseudonym “Mr. X.” According to Sagan, cannabis helped him think more creatively and find greater enjoyment in food, movies, and art. Can’t say we disagree!

Willie Nelson

Willie Nelson claims that cannabis saved his life. While he was a heavy drinker in his youth, a fellow musician turned him onto weed, helping him sober up enough to start toking instead of drinking.

While older generations remember Willie for his dulcet voice and beat-up guitar, younger generations are more likely to know him as a legend among potheads. Among dedicated marijuana enthusiasts, Willie is in a league of his own. Even prominent figures like Snoop Dogg and Woody Harrelson claim that the red-headed stranger smokes them under the table.

Miley Cyrus

The former tween star and pop musician has been an ardent lover of weed for years. Considering that her father, country star Billy Ray Cyrus, has his own line of cannabis products, it seems the apple didn’t fall far from the tree.

Miley frequently smokes during performances, and whether she’s hitting a joint or herb vape, she seems to thoroughly enjoy it. She was most vocal about her love for cannabis during her Bangerz era but maintains an easygoing, party life to this day.

Whoopi Goldberg

While older folks remember Whoopi as the star of comedies like Sister Act, nuns don’t smoke as much as she does. Though Whoopi Goldberg primarily appears on The View to offer cultural commentary, she maintains a line of cannabis products designed specifically for people who menstruate. We love the holistic view she brings to the world by embracing weed’s recreational and medical use.

Ben and Jerry

Did you know that Ben and Jerry’s ice cream is really made by two guys named Ben and Jerry? Knowing that the dynamic duo of desserts are total stoners makes flavors like Cherry Garcia and Phish Food suddenly make a whole lot of sense. What else could explain the clear munchies logic that operates behind their ice cream flavors?

In addition to smoking in their private life, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield advocate publicly for marijuana legalization and reparative justice for people formerly convicted of marijuana-related crimes. That kind of activism definitely gets them invited into the hot box.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga’s early reputation for odd fashion and surreal music videos should make it no surprise that she tokes a little every now and then. Though she’s now an Academy Award-winning actress with serious artistic cred, she’s been open about her love for herb. In interviews, Gaga frequently describes her love for smoking and its importance in her creative process. She also uses cannabis to treat chronic pain she’s accumulated from injuries over the years. We think keeping a one hitter handy is a great way to keep chronic pain at bay.

Pete Davidson

Famous boyfriend to the stars, Pete Davidson is also a prominent celebrity who uses cannabis for fun and for health. Davidson suffers from Crohn’s disease and mental health issues that he manages with cannabis.

In an interview with High Times, Davidson claimed, “Weed would be the only thing that would help me eat because my stomach would be in pain all day…I wouldn’t be able to do SNL if I didn’t smoke weed.”

While weed seems to alleviate his health concerns, he seems to thoroughly enjoy smoking recreationally too, and we can’t say we blame him.

Wiz Khalifa

Wiz is a remarkably gifted rapper and a remarkably gifted smoker. At one time, the musician stated that he smoked approximately an ounce of weed every single day. We’re not sure how he took a break long enough to sing for a crowd. Judging by the number of photos we found of him smoking on stage, it seems he simply didn’t.

This speaks to his talent for performance. If we smoked a whole blunt, we’d fall asleep on the couch before we sold out a stadium and shared the stage with Snoop Dogg.
